I flubbed, I’ve seen Kristen Stewart not only in Twilight and Adventureland but also Panic Room and The Messangers – but I’d have to re-watch them / find notes to comment on performance. She’s been acting since 10 yrs old so no wonder she knows what she is talking about!
I vaguely remember Panic Room or The Messengers though I’ve seen both. Obviously not particularly memorable!
I’ve seen neither Panic Room nor The Messengers, but have seen Into the Wild, Zathura, and Speak. She projects a depth that she hasn’t fully utilized yet (as an actress), and if it weren’t for Twilight she’d still be under the radar quietly honing her skills. I also think she is a perfect Bella and an inspired choice by Catherine Hardwicke. I read the Metro interview also and was impressed with Kristen.
I completely agree that if it weren’t for Twilight – she’d be exploding on the scene in a few years with some award winning performance. That said, I quite like Stewart in the Twilight universe and I can’t wait to see where she takes the character as the story moves on. And Pattinson too – he’s not given much to do in the first film but I’m hopeful that in the follow-ups he’ll be given a little more “acting” to do. I’d hate to see him end up like Orlando Bloom – he’s clearly much more talented than that.
Oh, yes..the Bloom. Funny, I quite liked Orlando Bloom in the first ‘Pirates’ movie and I thought he made a good Paris in Troy, but like many people noted he tended to play the same role (or at least played them like they were the same). On the other hand, it worked for Kevin Costner…
Poor guy, he has some charm – maybe he just needed some more experience out of the limelight.
“the Bloom” LOL
I feel bad for Bloom – he’s really tried to make some stuff outside the limelight but even that was a disaster (not so much because of him – the story was just dreadful – avoid “Haven”). Looks like he has a number of projects lined up for the coming years. I’m hopeful they’ll show us a new side of Bloom.
And I’ll finally find out what Pattinson can do – Little Ashes opens locally on Friday and yes, I’m *so* going!
Interesting analogy to Orlando Bloom, they both are really attractive and people seem to enjoy picking apart their acting. I though Bloom was good in the first Pirates film and also in LotR trilogy, although I thought it was a huge mistake they added some contemporary stunts like stuff, especially in the 2nd film. Weird about the ‘playing the same role’ thing though – outside those 2 series I can’t think of what would be considered typecasted for him.
Robert Pattinson is still getting more work though and we haven’t seen Bloom in too much. I’ll be interested to see what he’s got lined up – I’ll have to check that out!
Awesome news that Little Ashes opens there on Friday! I can’t wait to hear what you think!
This typecasting the good looking actors in certain roles isn’t new – it’s been happening for some time and continues to happen and it always seems harder to break out of that mold. You’re completely right though Shannon – Bloom doesn’t really have a type – I just lump him in with those that do and it all gets muddled – definitely my bad.
And I just had a though. I have seen Bloom in something outside LotR & Pirates that he was good in (admittedly I only really enjoyed the first Pirates film and a few moments in the third) – Kingdom of Heaven. I know that film is not well loved but I enjoyed the theatrical cut and down right love the director’s cut of the film and yes, Bloom is quite good in it.
I actually own Kingdom of Heaven and liked it. As far as playing the same role – there was a time when he was considered for anything that included sword play…and he’s kind of a standard love interest. Unfortunately his calm exterior can come off on the big screen as a little bland – still nowhere near as blank as Costner.
The main difference I see between Pattinson and Bloom (so far) is that when I see Orlando Bloom in a film, I see Orlando Bloom. I think he has charm and I see something behind his eyes that might be interesting if brought out more. When I watch Rob Pattinson in a film, I see the character. He’s largely untested and rough around the edges, but he’s experimenting and seems to be on the right track.
