  1. Wray Said,

    Hey Guys!

Your podcast had loads of information including my favorite – the quote comparison. I hadn’t seen that yet. You already know that we differ on our view of Chris Weitz’ job as New Moon director. I have to say, though, this has little to do with the movie itself. The whole Catherine Hardwicke debacle colored the whole experience for me because it seemed punitive. Catherine asked for more time, a possible script re-work and said it couldn’t be done as it was. It seemed “they” wanted someone who could come in and do the job perfunctorily in the time allotted and not make a fuss about it. They knew Chris’ experience with CGI work and the relationship he had with Tippet, Desplat, and Aquirresarobe. Chris wanted to have a more positive experience than his “Golden Compass”. In that way it was a simple win/win. Chris had his job cut out for him and it seems he was very gracious about it including going out of his way to make the actors and the fans happy. Is this unique film-making? Probably not, but it sure is beautiful to look at and there is a cohesiveness that the previous film sorely needed.

The “Eclipse” trailer gets points for staying focused on the characters. The footage that appears on the Walmart edition is MUCH cooler, though. :) I dig all the action. At the same time what is with all the beefed up parts for Riley and (potentially) Bree? Hopefully they won’t forget about say…Carlisle. Although, the first trailer did not indicate it, I get the feeling that the movie will focus on the end conflict. This is due to what almost all the actors are saying. In the book, the Volturri (Jane, Demetri, and Felix) make a VERY quick appearance and it is AFTER all the action has occurred, yet they are strangely in the trailer. There is no theme to the “look” of the film, but the forest is gorgeous! I’m holding off judgment, but overall I thought the trailer was truly underwhelming.

  2. Wray Said,

P.S. For next week, does that mean I have to see “Remember Me?” ;)

  3. Marina Antunes Said,

We are going to spoil it if you haven’t but plan to see it…

  4. Wray Said,

Yea! Just what I needed – an excuse! I am a LOST fanatic so I can always say it’s to see Emilie De Ravin in a movie besides “Brick” (which I LOVED, by the way) where she had like 2 scenes.

  5. Marina Antunes Said,

She was in BRICK? Wow, totally missed that! But then, I had a brain spasm when I *finally* put two and two together and figured out she was the girl from Lost. Seeing the Remember Me trailer I had an inclination that she looked familiar but I didn’t know from where! And I’m a Lost fan too! Yeah, brain fart!

  6. Wray Said,

LOL! You”re too young to have any ’serious’ senior moments!

She has a very important role in “Brick”, but seen only briefly and mostly in flashback. One more hint, she’s on the poster/dvd cover.

  7. Becca Said,

In the UK, most people are getting annoyed that all the different companies decided to release different special effects some ranging to a lot of money. Although, i ordered mine and got mine early somehow on Tuesday crazy i know!

The eclipse trailer, well its not brilliant nor bad. I have to say i like David’s style and format of what he gives the characters, although i felt that the Volturi scene was rather cheesy, and freakish. The trailer really comes across as Team Edward, although Kristen’s wig reall is bugging me and the Team UK, it looks cheap and tacky and in a few scenes in the trailer she looks much darker whether its the lighting or make up it needs to be sorted !!

  8. Marina Antunes Said,

I know what you mean Becca – that wig is really glaringly bad in a few parts of the trailer but I’m thinking (hoping) that it’ll be fixed for the film. The more I see this trailer, the more I think that it comes across as a bit of a hack job. A hack job that makes sense and looks really nice but gives you nothing of the story – other than the fact that Bella has a choice to make. Yeah…..OK.

  9. Becca Said,

I think that the trailer was great but the wig is bugging me, hopefully it is fixed for the film although i feel that it will remain the same. The volturi is bugging me too as they looks quite tacky although i still think they are awesome. I am team edward but i have to say that jacob/taylor is looking quite great, im guessing there are going to be lots of team swaping !!

  10. Marina Antunes Said,

I think you’re right on with the team swapping Becca – I have a girlfriend who’s been on Team Edward from the start but who’s been downloading any screen shots she can of Jacob from the trailer.

    I am forever Team Edward.

  11. Shannon the Movie Moxie Said,

Wray – thank you so much for the reminded on the New Moon decisions there. I so wish they stuck with Hardwicke and went with more time / money to make it with her as opposed to what they went with. But, there is no turning back the clock now and I’m hoping to love Eclipse.

And so the Volturi are there. Interesting. And quick. Wow. I totally would have cut that if they are only there briefly, but I’m sure people want to see the actors, whom I love, but really seems like we don’t need it. Although I’ll weigh in again on that post re-reading Eclipse :)

I always forget Emilie de Ravin was in Brick! Small but important, that is for sure. Great film there.

Fair warning on Remember Me – we’ll be 100% spoilering it. Also, I thought it was so bad that I’m glad I ended up winning tix, rather than paying to go.

About the Eclipse trailer – wow, I didn’t find it super Team Edward. Leaning there maybe, but there still was a lot of Jacob and some tender moments with him and Bella.

Hack job on the hair Marina, or the trailer itself?

They are really harping the choice thing with the trailer – but I’m ok with like… making a point of the point. Focus is a good thing!

Wow, people swapping to Jacob from the trailer alone? Awee, it’s not all looks… character peeps! Character & actions say a lot too :)

  12. Marina Antunes Said,

Shannon – maybe hack job isn’t the best description but yeah, the trailer feels strange now that I’ve seen it a bunch of times. It’s been interesting hearing what folks who have no idea what it’s about have to say – mostly that it really doesn’t give any indication what the movie is about – other than a decision. I’m jumping back and forth from thinking that it’s brilliant to thinking that it’s not great. Not sure what to make of that.

  13. Wray Said,

Speaking of hair, I like Jasper’s hair in the Eclipse behind the scenes footage. Finally it looks like Jackson’s hair…but blonde.

As for the “choice” in Eclipse, as much as Bella has ostensibly made her choice about who she loves most, this choice is really about more than that. If Bella were my daughter, I would work as hard as I could to ensure she looks long and hard at the consequences of this choice. That’s what Eclipse is really about – not Edward or Jacob, but the ramifications of immortality.

  14. Marina Antunes Said,

Wray – agreed! I did break down and watched the 7 minutes behind the scenes video and agreed, Jasper`s hair looks MUCH better (it looks like real hair!).

The reason I love the book is because it’s about the ramifications (great wording BTW) and though the trailer certainly focuses on the choice, I don’t get the sense of urgency that the book builds. Obviously that’s not possible to do in under 2 mins but something about it just feels off. Just can’t figure out what it is.

******************SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T SEEN THE BEHIND THE SCENES ECLIPSE VIDEO************************************************************SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T SEEN THE BEHIND THE SCENES ECLIPSE VIDEO************************************************************SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T SEEN THE BEHIND THE SCENES ECLIPSE VIDEO************************************************************SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T SEEN THE BEHIND THE SCENES ECLIPSE VIDEO******************************************

Hope the scene they showed at the end of that clip will look a little different in the film since I realized almost immediately that they were using music cues from New Moon. For some reason, that really bothers me.

  15. Shannon the Movie Moxie Said,

“That’s what Eclipse is really about – not Edward or Jacob, but the ramifications of immortality.” Well said Wray!

And I’m thrilled to hear that Jasper’s hair is back to being more Jackson like! Oh my goodness, that is such a relief.

I’ve always felt the sense of urgency / delaying-ness feels off. I’m not real big on the whole taking a long time to make a decisions. If you can’t decide, that’s one thing, but if you can – why wait? Once you make a decision – put it into action. Life’s too short (hehe).

Oh, I’ve not seen the Eclipse stuff… curious.. curious!

  16. Shannon the Movie Moxie Said,

re: Jasper hair (I can’t believe I just wrote that), but yes re: Jasper hair. I just saw this pic:

    http://geeksofdoom.com/2010/03/31/new-images-from-twilight-saga-eclipse/2010-03-31-eclipse_03/

And wonder if it’s the same as what they show in the Eclipse footage. I hope no, cuz I’m not really digging it. Who would think to have such strong opinions on his hair…

  17. Wray Said,

Yikes, Shannon. All I saw previously were action shots. This “still” looks pretty horrible. On the other hand, so does Carlisle’s wig. He always looks better in movement. Oh, well, I think this will be the lasting legacy of the Twilight Saga – bad wigs.

  18. Marina Antunes Said,

I just re-watched the clip because seeing that picture, I wasn’t absolutely sure Jasper’s hair looked that long but yup, it looks about the same as it does in the clip. For some reason though, it looks a lot longer in that image (though it’s not really). Must have been the angle of the camera. I still like it better than his hair in New Moon.

  19. Wray Said,

Yeah, it just looks better in movement. And better than New Moon. Poor Jackson. I can relate since I have hair just like him (and so do both of my sons)… He looks best when he just lets it do it’s thing.

Anyway, what do you think of the stills otherwise – besides the hair?

  20. Shannon the Movie Moxie Said,

Yeah, I feel for Jackson on that hair big time. I love Rosalie’s though – she looks absolutely fantastic.I don’t think they’ve touched on this in the Twi-Lore but I thought in general vamps couldn’t change their hair.

I love the Bella/Jacob image. All warm and by the fire like.

I think the vamp pack ready to attack feels a bit .. odd. I like getting to see the Cullens (YAY!) but they kinda look a little matchy-poo. I guess they are more ‘organized’. I also wonder what they heck they are looking at.

Love triangleness one I don’t know quite what to make of… although I don’t think they ever showed the three of them in the trailer so that is cool to see.

I’ve got hi res versions of the new stills here: http://moviemoxie.blogspot.com/2010/03/eclipse-stills.html

I can’t decide if I want to see the Eclipse footage, but I so have to refresh read the book! I’m feeling kinda lost.

  21. Marina Antunes Said,

The first thing that strikes me about all of those images is the colour and lighting. They’re gorgeous though I find the meadow image a little less interesting than the rest. There’s some great colour saturation going on here – it’s subtle but adds a great feel to the images. We’ll definitely have to discuss them in a little more detail when we record next week’s show.
